Permanent Make-Up Awareness

I am sure I speak for every permanent make-up specialist, when I express my sadness & horror at last week’s article about the permanent make-up botch up. My heart goes out to Michelle Bujak and her horrific experience.

Our faces are the window to the world, and when you trust someone enough to enhance that with this kind of negative impact, the effect is lasting.

Permanent make-up is a combination of science and art. What most people don’t know is that it is a specialized field that takes intense training and continuous courses, plus annual refresher exams to enhance your knowledge and expertise. It is not a once- off training exercise that enables you to leave a permanent mark on somebody’s face or body.

I truly hope the article has made people more aware of where they go to for their permanent make-up enhancements.

There are a few things to be aware of before you undergo any permanent procedure. Most Permanent Make Up professionals will offer you a consultation, usually at no charge, before you decide to proceed. Check their credentials and make sure they are up to date. This will also give you the opportunity to ask any questions and alleviate any doubt you may have and to let you know what to expect from the experience. Your expectations need to be met and your preferences should be adhered to.

We are there to guide you through every step of the way. You will also be asked numerous questions, including your medical history. There are certain conditions and medication that can alter the result, or prolong the procedure.

Extremely important is their hygiene aspect. Make sure that everything is sanitary, and that they have a medical waste certificate or invoice to show you. Any person working with blood should have hepatitis inoculations and be able to prove it. Ask about the pigments and equipment used. Check that they use sealed and disposable equipment, including needles, pigment caps etc. Make sure they wear personal protective clothing all the time. Most importantly, use your own discretion. Should you feel uncertain in any way, don’t proceed until you find a qualified person in an environment that you are comfortable with.

Permanent make-up is amazing for active people, men and women, young and old. People with sensitive eyes, dry eye syndrome; people that cannot wear cosmetics; people with bad eyesight. Or anybody that just wants to enhance their natural features.

Certainly it is not for everyone, as it is an individual choice.

It is an exciting experience, but unfortunately there are chancers out there that can give the industry a bad reputation, as seen in the article “Permanent make up botch-up”. This is not at all the case if you have done a bit of research. I have personally had permanent make up done & I love every aspect of it. I thrive on the excitement of my clients that feel the same way after their procedure. Imagine the thought of waking up with make up! I would do it again.
